ULMWP Secretary receives threats after torture video goes viral

Mr Markus Haluk, the Executive Secretary of the United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), reported receiving threats via phone calls and WhatsApp messages following ULMWP’s statement regarding the video depicting the torture of a Papuan youth by TNI personnel in Puncak Regency. Markus revealed that on 25 March 2024, he received approximately 35 calls from 15 different numbers, with some instances of multiple calls simultaneously, indicating a concerted effort to intimidate him. Additionally, he mentioned receiving threatening messages via WhatsApp and SMS, suggesting a coordinated campaign of harassment targeting individuals associated with the dissemination of information about the torture incident.
