Military members shoot indigenous Papuan in Maybrat

Military members gunned down an indigenous Papuan, Mr Frengki Nauw, in front of the Mare district military command near the Suswa Village, Maybrat Regency on 17 April 2022. Prior to the shooting, Mr Nauw was attacked and beaten by an intoxicated villager with the initials BB. Following the attack, Mr Nauw grabbed a machete and chased after the attacker. He then ran to the nearby military post to get to safety. As Mr Nauw approached the military post with a machete, the military members release several warning shots.

Mr Nauw still insisted to enter the military post looking for safety, which caused the military members to aim and shoot at Mr Nauw, hitting him on the right foot (see photos below). Mr Nauw was losing blood but the military members refused to provide medical first aid to him. The village pastor finally brought Frengki Nauw to the Ayamaru Health Centre (Puskesmas Ayamaru), where he received medical treatment.
