Military members reportedly tortured Mr Meki Pekei in the Deiyai Regency, Papua Tengah Province, in the late afternoon of 27 November 2024. Mr Pekei was admitted to the hospital on the same day to receive medical treatment. He sustained a bleeding injury on the back of his head and his body was covered with bruises after military personnel allegedly beat him with sticks. The soldiers repeatedly punched him in the face until both eyes were bruised and blood came out of the eyes and ears (see photos below, source: independent HRDs).
